The Wooden Bowl (story)

A frail old man went to live with his son, daughter-in-law, and a four-year old grandson. The old man's hands trembled, his eyesight was blurred, and his step faltered. The family ate together nightly at the dinner table. But the elderly grandfather's shaky hands and failing sight made eating rather difficult. Peas rolled off his spoon onto the floor. When he grasped the glass often milk spilled on the tablecloth. The son and daughter-in-law became irritated with the mess.

"We must do something about grandfather," said the son. I've had enough of his spilled milk, noisy eating, and food on the floor. So the husband and wife set a small table in the corner. There, grandfather ate alone while the rest of the family enjoyed dinner at the dinner table. Since grandfather had broken a dish or two, his food was served in a wooden bowl. Sometimes when the family glanced in grandfather's direction, he had a tear in his eye as he ate alone. Still, the only words the couple had for him were sharp admonitions when he dropped a fork or spilled food. The four-year-old watched it all in silence.

One evening before supper, the father noticed his son playing with wood scraps on the floor. He asked the child sweetly, "What are you making?" Just as sweetly, the boy responded, "Oh, I am making a little bowl for you and mama to eat your food from when I grow up." The four-year-old smiled and went back to work. The words so struck the parents that they were speechless. Then tears started to stream down their cheeks. Though no word was spoken, both knew what must be done. That evening the husband took grandfather's hand and gently led him back to the family table.

For the remainder of his days he ate every meal with the family. And for some reason, neither husband nor wife seemed to care any longer when a fork was dropped, milk spilled, or the tablecloth soiled.

Children are remarkably perceptive. Their eyes ever observe, their ears ever listen, and their minds ever process the messages they absorb. If they see us patiently provide a happy home atmosphere for family members, they will imitate that attitude for the rest of their lives. The wise parent realizes that every day that building blocks are being laid for the child's future.

Two-year-old Boy who Feeds his Paralysed Mother by Mouth

Mother paralysed in a car crash is woken from a coma by her son who then chews her food and mouth feeds her.

It is an achingly touching symbol of the love that binds a mother and son. A two-year-old boy chews the food of his disabled mother and feeds it to her mouth to mouth - months after she awoke from a coma to meet him for the first time. Zhang Rongxiang was pregnant with Gao Qinbao when a devastating car crash left her in a coma in Shuyang county in Jiangsu Province, China, three years ago. But moments after doctors told her husband, Gao Dejin, that she would never recover, they realised she was with child... and that the baby had miraculously survived the trauma.

Adorable: Gao Qianbo spends every day by his mother's bedside helping her eat and making her laugh.

For the next five months Gao Dejin cared for her at home until medics were able to perform a caesarean section to remove Gao Qianbo from her womb. The little boy has spent every day by his mother's bedside ever since. Then, to doctor's astonishment, she awoke to the sound of his little voice in May this year.

Helping out: To doctors' astonishment, she miraculously awoke to the sound of Gao's little voice in May this year.

While she is able to swallow, she cannot chew her food. So to avoid having to eat pureed hospital meals, she is given regular food which Gao Qianbo helpfully chews and then tenderly passes from his mouth to hers.

Struggle for survival: The family has survived mainly on government subsistence with some support from relatives and friends.

The touching display of filial devotion has been captured on camera for the first time since Zhang Rongxiang awoke from a vegetative state in May. The family has survived mainly on government subsistence with some support from relatives and friend, the Yangtze Evening Post reported.

Isn’t it time we did something?

Dear All,
This is an interesting set of thoughts, Hope it reaches the heart of all people some day!

Many of you don’t know me, many will say ‘unsubscribe’, many would not like to read it at all but I need to write...

It’s not about me, it’s not about you. It’s about the place we stay in, the society we live in, the systems we have!!

*I often wonder* when a mosquito bites us why do I think of a repellant, why a coil or hit why don’t I have the courage to question my municipality?

*Why do I buy* water in a bottle? Why do I purify water at my home? Does the water bill say that the tap water is only for washing clothes or having a bath? Why don’t I get drinking water in my tap?

*Why should I pay-* a toll tax on every single black, nice looking road? Why a basic road is not my right?

*Why do I buy* an inverter or dream of a generator? Why don’t I get current in my wires?

*Why do we call* the private schools as public schools.. I always thought schools run by the government should be called public schools!!

*Why- the cricketer* who sold the ethics of game sits in parliaments or come as experts on channels?

*Why someone known* for beating his wife and had charges of holding drugs is a celebrity to judge dance shows and all of us watch and clap too.

*Why is it that the* so called high profile tainted journalists still run public shows and we all watch it...

*Why don’t I know* the fine on jumping red light or for not wearing a helmet but am very well aware of power of 100 rupees, the cost of duty of most of the traffic guys across the country...

*Why is a girl raped* in a roaming car in the capital of the country almost every month and all that the government says is that girls should be careful...

*Why even after killing hundreds* of people on road the blue line buses remained on roads? Do you know any city apart from the capital of your country where the city buses crushed people on a daily basis?

*Why didn’t we come on the roads* when someone made elephants of stones for thousands of crores rupees in U.P. where people still dig pits to sleep or die of hunger?

*Why a tainted, corrupt minister* is called to IIM and Academy for IAS and applauded – unstopped on his desi style ?

Its so easy to call someone corrupt but have you ever thought-; *The act of bribe starts by giving not by taking* ..it starts from me not from him or her.-. so why don’t I look at myself first ?

I strongly believe that the *Logic is always for NOT doing something.. Doing does not need logic,* *doers don’t believe in logics!!*

Just a couple of years back some people came and played with us, killed our pride and people. We were angry.-. some people thought  that the attack in Mumbai was on rich people and therefore something would change...

Nothing happened.. we all go to Gateway of India on every anniversary in November, burn some wax, sing some songs and come back. Nothing changes

The government is back, Z security is back and people are back at the Gateway of India…

*It’s time to come out, stand up*...move.. do something.. Sitting in drawing rooms or discussing over a mug of Beer will not solve anything...

*Please remember this country does not need thinkers any more, enough of them.. what you need is action...*

Unbelievable Half Man Peng Story

In life we keep complaining about what is or why we don’t have. Half the time we seem dissatisfied, though full-bodied and free to choose. Fat people say,”I want to be slim.” Skinny people say,” I want to be fatter.”

Peng Shuilin has opened his own bargain supermarket, called the Half Man-Half Price Store. The inspirational 37-year-old has become a businessman and is used as a role model for other amputees. At just 2ft 7ins tall, he moves around in a wheelchair giving lectures on recovery from disability. His attitude is amazing, he doesn’t complain. “He had good care, but his secret is cheerfulness. Nothing ever gets him down.”

PENG Shuilin is 78cms high. He was born in Hunan Province, China. In 1995, in Shenzhen, a freight truck sliced his body in half. His lower body and legs were beyond repair.

Peng Shuilin, 37, spent nearly two years in hospital in Shenzhen, southern China, undergoing a series of operations to re-route nearly every major organ or system inside his body. Peng kept exercising his arms, building up strength, washing his face and brushing his teeth.

He Survived against all odds. Now Peng Shulin has astounded doctors by learning to walk again after a decade.

Considering Peng’s plight, doctors at the China Rehabilitation Research Centre in Beijing devised an ingenious way to allow him to walk on his own, creating a sophisticated egg cup-like casing to hold his body, with two bionic legs attached

It took careful consideration, skilled meaasurement and technical expertize. Peng has been walking the corridors of Beijing Rehabilitation Centre with the aid of his specially adapted legs and a resized walking frame.

RGO is a recipicating gait orthosis, attached to a prosthetic socket bucket. There is a cable attached to both legs so when one goes forward, the other goes backwards. Rock to the side, add a bit of a twist and the leg without the weight on it advances, while the other one stays still, giving a highly efficient way of ambulation. Oh so satisfying to ‘walk’ again after ten years with half a body!

Hospital vice-president Lin Liu said: “We’ve just given him a checkup; he is fitter than most men his age.”

Triple Filter Test (Inspiring Story)

One day an acquaintance came to meet Chanakya and said to him excitedly “do you know what I just heard about your friend?”

“Just wait a while”, Chanakya replied. “Before you tell me anything I would like you to go through a little test which I call the triple filter test”.

“What’s that?” asked the acquaintance.

“I will tell you”, Chanakya said. “Before you talk to me about my friend, it might be a good idea to take a moment and filter what you are going to say. That is why I call it the Triple filter test. The first filter is ‘Truth’. Are you sure that what you are about to tell me is true?”

“No”, the man said. “Actually, I just heard about it.”

“All right”, said Chanakya. “So you don’t really know if it is true or not. Now lets us try the second Filter, the filter of ‘Goodness’. Is what you are about to tell me about my friend something good?”

“No, on the contrary..”

“So”, Chanakya continued, “You wanted to tell me something bad about him but you are not certain it is true. You may still pass the test because there is one filter left; the filter of ‘Usefulness’. Is what you want to tell me about my friend going to be useful to me?”

“No, not really...”

“Well”, Continued Chanakya, “If you want to tell me what may not be true and is neither good nor useful, why tell it to me at all?”

MORAL OF THE STORY : He who repeats the ill he hears of another is the true slanderer.
