In architecture, construction, engineering, real estate development and technology the word building may refer to any human-made structure used or intended for supporting or sheltering any use or continuous occupancy.
In mid 20th century, New York and Chicago became the focal point of the competition for the tallest building in the world. Momentum in setting records passed from the United States to other nations with the opening of the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in 1998. After this many tallest buildings have been built in Taiwan, China and other middle-eastern countries.
