World's Most Beautiful Atriums

In modern architecture, an atrium (plural: atria) is a large open space, often several stories high and having a glazed roof and/or large windows, often situated within a larger multistory building and often located immediately beyond the main entrance doors. Atria are a popular design feature because they give their buildings a feeling of space and light. Fire control is an important aspect of contemporary atrium design due to criticism that poorly designed atria could allow fire to spread to a building's upper stories more quickly.

As of 2007, Dubai's Burj Al Arab, has the tallest atrium. The Burj Al Arab was built to impress and to iconize the urban development in the city of Dubai.

Burj Al Arab, Dubai
The Burj Al Arab is the iconic, sail shaped building on the shores of Dubai's beaches. Height 321 Meters.

Jinmao Tower Hotel, Shanghai
Jinmao Tower is has one of the most-photographed atriums and with reason - the balconies have been designed to allow photographers to slide the camera over the ledge without having to look down the 88 floors.

Holiday Inn, Singapore
There's no guessing as to why this hotel got its name. The hotels 27 floors have been built around this impressive, glass-topped atrium.

Hyatt Regency, America
This impressive Atlanta hotel with its glass elevators has inspired hotel design since it was built in 1967.

Marriott Marquis, America
The impressive 47-storey atrium also has a 50-foot blue sail in its centre, supposedly influencing the guests' mood and calming them.

Marriott Marquis, Atlanta
Another view of this impressive atrium, this time from the floor up. The hotel's ballroom level features the Pulse bar, located at the base of the sail.

Georgian Terrace Hotel, America
The new design of the hotel remains a testament to Atlanta's rich history.

Compuware Building, America
The suspended water fountain in this entrance doesn't create the optical illusions of other atriums, but it certainly draws the eye up.

Top 10 Soft Drinks With Deadly Chemicals

When people drink juice or sodas, they never expect to find chemicals or ingredients that could potentially kill them. You’d be surprised how many companies make errors that could cost you your health. Here are just 10 examples.

1. Tropicana Orange Juice :
Coca Cola Co. and PepsiCo Inc. found a banned chemical (fungicide) inside Tropicana orange juice. The Food & Drug Administration tested the juice and found that the levels of fungicide are acceptable. However, there is one problem. Fungicide can dissolve testicles.

2. Wei Chun Co. Passion Fruit & Kumquat Juices :
This Taipei company was fined for selling tainted juice products to eateries and drinks shops. At least 700 restaurants, hotels and tea shops bought the products. The juices had clouding agents.

3. Diet Coke :
A UK documentary looked at the significant increase in people dying of brain cancer. They found that the artificial sweeteners in diet coke and other diet sodas was a cause. Aspertain is deadly and should be consumed with caution.

4. Kumbacha :
This health drink contains high amounts of oxidane. Oxidane is a chemical and solvent used in nuclear power plants. This chemical is present in almost all soft drinks.

5. Beer :
Beer does have high levels of ethanol. This gas is actually recognized by UN as a weapon of mass destruction.

6. Apple Juice :
Watch out before drinking apple juice. Consumer Reports and the FDA in the US found that there were exceeding levels of arsenic in available apple juices. The reason why arsenic is present in apples is because of the soil the trees are grown in. The soil which contains arsenic contaminates the fruit which contaminates the juice.

7. Perrier :
In 1990, benzene caused this company to recall its product. The company still alleged that there was less benzene than in cigarettes. Angry consumers formed a lawsuit against the giant saying they knew their products were tainted and sold them anyways.

8. Bolthouse Farms Carrot Juice :
Organic seems marketable, especially for those wishing to go for healthy choices. Andy Vale of Toronto bought the drink and suffered from botulism which caused paralysis and breathing problems for him and his wife. The company issued a recall after 7 cases of poisoning occurred in Canada and the United States. Botulism is a disease that is caused by a toxin produced by Clostridium botulinum (bacterium).

9. Coca Cola milk drinks :
Coca Cola milk drinks in China were found to contain methomyl and thiodicarb. These chemicals are used in pesticides. The milk drinks were Minute Maid Super Milky drinks. One boy died from poisoning while 2 others were affected.

10. Various Soft drinks :
Many soft drinks and bottled waters contained a chemical called Dihydrogen Monoxide which is deadly. The chemical can cause death through suffocation. Oxygen will not be absorbed in the lungs as a result.

Hammerhead Shark Giving Birth On Beach in Florida

An inconsiderate fisherman caused a hammerhead shark to give birth before a large audience on a Florida beach. According to the Daily Mail UK, a fisherman pulled a 5-foot-long, pregnant hammerhead onto the shore of Panama City Beach in Florida, causing the animal to go into shock and have her babies.

A crowd quickly gathered around the shallow water where the shark mom was settled to get a better look at the creature. Onlookers soon noticed that the animal was giving birth while thrashing on the sand. Several animal lovers near the scene tried to drag the shark back into water, but said the predator continued to swim to the shore.

Park rangers arrived shortly after the incident to help the shark, but sadly the animal passed away. Things turned out better for the sharks' surprise pups. Hammerhead pups are extremely independent and often swim away from their mom shortly after birth, as was the case with these newborns. They will spend the next few weeks fending for themselves in the shallow waters around the beach before heading into the ocean.

This shocking sight is just one of an increasing number of hammerhead sightings around Florida. The sharks are often seen in shallow reefs or following fishing boats. Hammerheads are not known for attacking humans and usually go after smaller prey.
